SCAA Elite 18U Girls - Capital Fall Classic Champions
Over the weekend of 16-17 November the SCAA Elite 18U girls traveled to Richmond, Virginia to play in the Capital Fall Classic, hosted by the Richmond Strikers. On the line was the U18 Premier Division Championship, and an automatic bid to the 2020 Jefferson Cup, one of the top college showcases in the country.
The ladies opened play on Saturday morning with a 6-0 victory against OBX Storm 02 Girls from North Carolina. In the afternoon, the ladies continued their strong defensive play, securing a second clean sheet with a 4-0 victory over ODFC Cesena 02 of Virginia. This second win secured a spot for the Elite 18U Girls in the finals on Sunday.
The final matched the SCAA Elite ladies against an undefeated Chester Springs United FC 02 Integrity team from Pennsylvania, with the winner taking home the championship title and the Jefferson Cup automatic bid. The SCAA team led 2-1 at half after scoring on a last minute set piece to end the half. The second half was a strong battle between both teams but SCAA Elite’s strong finishing on goal propelled SCAA to a 5-2 win. The win against United FC 02 Integrity was impressive considering Integrity’s winning streak of five of their last six tournaments, including winning this same tournament last year and a follow up championship win in the Jefferson Cup earlier this year.
